Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease characterized by slowly progressing, irreversible airway obstruction which in simple words means that a person will face difficulty in exhaling.

It is a kind of lung disease where the air is blocked and it could not find ways to move out thus making person unable breathe in a proper manner. Here the person will face two categories of problems, firstly Emphysema and secondly chronic asthmatic bronchitis.

The main cause due to which a person faces this problem is smoking. The symptoms and signs of this disease alter from person to person and of which some are wheezing, chronic or severe cough, chest tightness and shortness in breathe.

Chronic asthmatic bronchitis is the situation when a person has narrowed the way for air to pass and thus facing problems like wheezing and coughing. Emphysema on the other hand is the situation when person is not able to inhale oxygen properly and this causes the problem of shortness of breath. Many other risk factors that can cause COPD are tobacco eating, dust and air pollution and chemical fumes.

This mainly starts developing at the age of 40. The simplest way that one can do to prevent this disease is have healthy food, no smoking and alcohol consumption, regular exercise and also staying away from places where there are lot of people surrounding him or her.
